Rolling around in the crib

Last night was NJ's first night in the crib without being swaddled. (He was starting to roll around swaddled and was getting stuck against the rails) He just kept rolling around and around running into the rails and just riling himself up and not sleeping. At firs the was playing, then he got frustrated. Any suggestions as to how to keep him still? Or is this just a phase? He knows how to suck his thumb but hasn't figured out how to use it to soothe himself. He doesn't have a lovey but I'm trying to get him to "adopt" one.

Once they get mobile, they tend to move around a lot in bed. Even now I can still hear Ethan smashing up against the wall as he did when he was in his crib. The boy moved and still moves around everywhere... who knew where the head of the crib was... LoL. I still have a rail on Ethan's bed because I know he'll fall out still!

I don't think you can "keep them still" :)
My Hayden was all over the map, he wedge himself into the corner (thankgoodness I use bumpers, against all advise). sometimes flips 180 degree to face the other end of the crib. If NJ's swaddling might be off, how about those sleepers (sleeveless ones) for him to keep him warm?

Hey:) Have you tried the baby wedges? You can get them at Babies R Us for about $20 and you place the baby in between them, and they cant roll around. Jada really adapted well to these, she would roll all over the place and never was a fan of swaddling...once we got the bumpers she became less fussy.

If you want NJ to adopt a lovey, make sure you have 2 on hand of the same one (in case you does get attached)! Just a hard lesson learned on my end. :) As for the rolling around, he's just discovering his newfound mobility, and it'll pass with time. We tried the wedges, but that just made Chloe more mad. I did worry that she would suffocate if she rolled up against the crib bumper so we took it off while she was in the rolling around phase. Then we put it back on when she got over the rolling around and just got her arms and legs stuck through the slats.

Julia - 2 lovies? How about half a dozen like my 2 yo? :) Lexa hides her "favorite" blanket all over the house and would wail instantly if I don't have one on hand when it's bedtime!!! lol

Ning, stupid me that I bought Chloe a boutique CachCach lovey that they don't make after the one season for the particular line. If Chloe's beloved "Baby" gets lost or damaged, then there goes the end of naps and bedtime around here.

i've tried this on jenna:

1. fold a receiving blanket into a triangle - make sure both her arms are pressed down by her side - and tucked in the 2 corners under her body. so the blanket is on top of her, instead of her lying on the blanket. usually, i'll cover her up to her chest (around the armpits).

2. use another receiving blanket to "double tuck" him in or use a scarf (wrap it around and around from the bicep down).

that usually keeps Jenna still.
