Diaper Pail

We're in the market for a diaper pail. Now that NJ is on solids more regularly, his poo is starting to smell like... real poo. What brand do you recommend? Diaper Genie? Diaper Dekor? Diaper Champ? Any other ideas?

I keep getting booted offline, so if this ends up psted more than once, I'm sorry!

We've thought outside-the-box on this one. We actually have a small metal trash can with a lid that we keep an air freshener in. When she poos, we put the diaper in a small (4 gallon) vanilla-scented trash bag (you can buy a 105 pack of them for like $3 at Target...I think the brand is Ruffies). Because it's a small trash can, we can only fit like 6-8 diapers in it, which forces us to take out the trash more often than we normally would. I think this has contributed to keeping her room stink-free!

We have the Diaper Dekor. I really like it. From what my sister-in-law told me (and I think my Baby Bargains book said) is that pretty much, you're not going to get more scent control from one vs the other. The things to look into are do you want to be able to use regular kitchen bags, do you want each one to be individually wrapped, do you want to use it as a regular trash can after, etc, etc? I chose the Dekor b/c I liked the way it looked (as far as liking Diaper pails - lol), and you can use it as a reg trash can afterwards (if it ever loses the diaper smell). Plus, Baby Bargains gave it a really good review. I've been pleased w/ it so far. When I changed Rachel at a BabiesRUs once, they had the Diaper Champ, and one thing I noticed w/ both the Dekor and the Champ is that no matter what, whenever you open the diaper pail up to put a fresh stink in there, the stink already in the diaper pail will inevitably waft out. We keep a Glade oils air freshener plugged in her room all the time, so I never notice a smell unless I have to open the pail to deposit a fresh bomb:)

I'd skip all of the above, truthfully. Just dump the poop right into the toilet and dispose of the diaper into the trash or small grocery bag then trash. You won't have trouble with smells at all this way.

julia - you have the right idea =) I personally didn't use a diaper pail at all. I received one, but never used it!

I received both the diaper genie and the diamper champ for my shower. I decided to return the genie since you have to use a special bag. I'm giving the diaper champ a chance. I'm thinking I could live without it, too.

oh I'm kicking myself, I love Diaper Dekor. It was my shower gift and I rarely used it after the first WEEK. (i'm too lazy to bring the diaper back to the diaper pail, just threw them away anywhere I could... :) I donated the new diaper pail and unopened boxes of refill to Goodwill last month! should've just given that to you... The good thing about Diaper Dekor is that it's triple sealed and the smell didn't escape. And it's easy to handle, no need to twist and turn, just step on it, drop the thing in, and it's done. You can do it with one hand. It's a bit on the expensive side I think, but not by much.
